What we sing about, and how we sing about it, frames our lives through the focus and repetition of songwriting and singing. Though I admit that I still don’t know some of the lyrics to my favorite songs, and I hear people all the time who say that they don’t pay attention to the lyrics as long as they like the music, as a singer of songs, lyrics really matter.
That being said, I often hear songwriters say that they’re most inspired to write in emotionally charged times. I can relate: songwriting is a tremendous way to express and process our feelings.
